  • The Dept of Transportation Art Partners initiative has issued a call for community partners to exhibit temporary public artwork on NYC DOT properties across the city. The Request for Proposals opened 2/5, and there’s an updated Site Selection Guide—and potential partners (business improvement districts, nonprofits, art galleries, artist-in-residence programs, arts councils, museums, cultural institutions, community centers, and other nonprofits) are invited to propose NYC DOT-owned infrastructure as potential sites for temporary art for up to 11 months. Learn more at the links.
  • The New York Public Library’s Picture Collection, part of the Wallach Division of Art, Prints, and Photographs, offers a Picture Collection Artist Fellowship to support artists or scholars engaged in the research, development, and/or execution of a new creative or scholarly work based on the Collection’s holdings. The fellowship allows dedicated access to the Collection and guidance from its staff with the goal of highlighting the Collection’s distinctive attributes. Stipends are awarded on a sliding scale from $2,000 to $5,000; apply at the link by 3/29.
  •  MTA Arts & Design manages the “Percent-for-Art” program which installs permanent art in transit stations citywide. Projects are site-specific and engage a variety of media—painting, mosaic, glass, textiles, sculpture, and works that are integrated into the infrastructure, or architecture. For example, there’s an upcoming deadline—Friday 1/21—for artists’ submissions for the art component of the renovation of the 242 Street-Van Cortlandt Park station in the Bronx. See the many other projects seeking art at the link.
  • Manhattan Neighborhood Networks (MNN) also offers fall classes in digital media ranging from podcasting to screenwriting to video editing. Led by expert instructors, these hands-on classes offer small class sizes for personalized learning. Register at the link (and sign up for their newsletter here)
